DuPont Uses Isomag Bearing Isolators to Keep Water and Process Fluid Out of Their Brad Foote Gearbox

Updated: Mar 18, 2020

DuPont found Isomag bearing isolators to be the perfect solution for their Brad Foote gearbox. This high speed dual output parallel shaft gearbox running at 6500rpm was used in a proprietary process and experienced problems of ingress of water and process fluids to the bearing housing, eventually causing the gearbox to fail. The one weakness of this Brad Foote gearbox is the lip seals that are installed. Oil seals wear out in about 6-8 months on continuous use. Then the contamination of the bearing house starts, and corrosion and rust followed quickly after. On top of that, the lip seal wears a grove into the shaft, making it necessary to either refurbish the shaft or get a new one when it's time to repair.

When DuPont specified Isomag bearing isolators for their gearbox in 2005, they were very happy with their decision. The Brad Foote gearboxes has run leak free and contamination free since for their required 5 year planned maintenance cycle. They once were rebuilding these gearboxes every 6-8 months.

Isomag bearing isolators are a positive seal that wont damage the shafts of your gearbox, and work in horizontal or vertical up or down positions for the right angle gearboxes. Isomag bearing isolators also work perfectly in grease lubrication environments. So say hello to meeting your planned life cycle for your gearbox with Isomag bearing isolators.
